Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero has issued a warning shot to the side’s Premier League title rivals by claiming that the champions are eager to retain their crown.
The Argentina international scored in injury-time against QPR on the last day of the 2011-12 season to hand the title to Roberto Mancini’s side on goal difference over cross-town rivals Manchester United.
With the new campaign getting under way this weekend, Aguero has confessed that his side want to finish top of the pile once more.
“We’ve made a nice start and this week we have our first game,” the South American forward told The Sun.
“We’ve started off a step above the others and I hope to God we can make it stay like that. We have a phenomenal team and we are really starting to understand each other well.
“We’ll try to start like last season and do things well. I pray we can do it again. I’m not going to say it’s going to be easy but we have the team to do it.

“I understood the next day what I had done against QPR. But that’s gone now and I hope City can win more,” he concluded.
